2016 is in the books - now to focus on 2017

I've done a lot of thinking...and I really just have two big things I want to focus on this year. I know I gave six areas of priority for my life in my last post. But, I'm going to focus on two things this year.

First - I want to read the Bible cover to cover. I read, but I never read through completely. So, while this is a goal, it's really going to be a habit, because I'm going to read for 30 minutes each morning. It's said that if you read for 30 minuets a day, you can read the Bible cover to cover in 90 days. That's my goal. This is huge for me to put out there. Please ask me about this one. :)

Second - myself. I am good at keeping busy with all kinds of things. I'm not going to do that this year. I'm going to sleep more (again, another habit) with 7+ hours/night as my goal. And, along with reading, I'm going to move my body for 30 minutes each day.

Outside of these two things that I've distilled out of my list to be more habit forming than goal related, I have these:

1. Family - being more intentional about scheduled time together. Planning vacations (one trip a year just us), meal times (lunch at school once a week & dinners together 3 days/week), family activities (at home or out once a month), date nights (scheduled once a month). Big discussion right now is electronics vs none in our home...or, how we're going to limit these. This will be the subject of a future post.

2. Finances - monthly check-ins on the budget & increasing our giving.

3. Home - purging, organizing, and decorating to make it ours. Taking on one room a month.

4. Health - exercise & eating. I'm still working on exactly what all this is going to look like.

5. Work - Discussions on this are still ongoing - I'm trying to figure out exactly what this will look like with Pampered Chef and WineShop - I don't see any changes to my ATC work life at this point. And, my goal is to be finished with Continuing Education by October of this year!

This is where I'm at...how's your list looking???

My 6 areas of priority

I've narrowed my list down into 6 areas of goals for the year.

I may not work on each area every day, or month, but these are the top areas of my life that I want to pour myself into.

1. Daughter of the King - my relationship with Jesus
2. Myself - I need to take better care of me & that is going to be a top priority this year.
3. My Family - time together - intentional planning on activities & such.
4. My Finances - we've done well, but need to step back up a notch.
5. My Work - having balance with all I do.
6. My Home - I want to make this house a home for us this year, even more than it is.

So, there's the general list. I'll be getting to more specifics as this week winds down.

I'm using these worksheets from Money Saving Mom: http://cdn1.moneysavingmom.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/goal-setting-worksheet-custom.pdf

Enjoy!

Do you set goals?

As this year ends & another begins, I'm reflecting on the past year. It's been a whirlwind of 18 months for our family. We've done much. In some ways, I do believe we've achieved "goals" we've had, but not as intentionally as I'd like to have done.

So, as we start 2017, my question to you - do you set goals? How often? How do you track your goals? How do you stick to them? How do you keep yourself accountable to what you have laid out for yourself?

Comment here - share what you have used - what works, what doesn't, what you'd recommend.

And, if you're setting some goals for the New Year, share with me. I'd love to have a friend join me!

Here's to a productive 2017!
